Otolift launches the Modul-Air Smart: the most innovative Otolift to this date. The stairlift combines comfort, design, safety, and the latest technologies. Unique to this stairlift is the smart dashboard. A display in the armrest provides a live status overview of the stairlift.

Otolift Line

Otolift introduces the updated Otolift Line. This stairlift is specially developed for straight staircases, whether indoor or outdoor. Notably, this stairlift features an ICS display, providing the user with real-time insight into the status of the stairlift.

Acquisition of Meditek

For the first time in its history, Royal Otolift Stairlifts acquires a company. With the acquisition of the English brand Meditek, Otolift strengthens its competitive position. Meditek was previously one of the larger suppliers of stairlifts in UK.

Royal Designation

In 2016, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands decided to grant Otolift the Royal Designation. From that moment, the company name changed to Royal Otolift Stairlifts, and a crown was added to the logo. The designation symbolizes the king's respect, appreciation, and trust in Otolift.

Otolift Parallel

Reusable stairlift

Budget cuts in the municipal housing adaptation budget and the increased focus on environmental sustainability led to the development of the first reusable stairlift. Mr. Visschedijk from Hengelo was the first to use the so-called 'Flexi-Rail'.

In 1980, the company moved to the nearby village of Bergambacht. Otto and Alex Ooms, the children of Jan Otto, took over the business. They also began the production of home elevators. Thanks to innovation, the Dutch market was quickly conquered.

The first stairlift

As the demand for petroleum decreases, Jan Otto Ooms once again shifts the focus of the company. After developing the balance lift (a lift that operates with counterweights) and the platform lift, the first stairlift is designed in the late 1960s.

Tank Trucks

Jan Otto Ooms takes over the blacksmith’s shop from his father. By this time, salmon has been absent from the Lek river for over thirty years. Therefore, Jan Otto shifts his focus to new market: petroleum. In the following years, he builds and modifies tank trucks, fully customized to meet customer requirements.

Salmon chimney’s

The Ooms family has been one of the largest ship makers in Ammerstol for many years. Otto Ooms is also increasingly focusing on shipbuilding. He repairs and builds salmon chimneys in his father’s shipyard.

Blacksmith’s shop

Otto Ooms starts a blacksmith’s shop in the South Holland village of Ammerstol. Here he makes stoves for the salmon fishermen and horseshoes for the workhorses that pull the salmon barges.
